Michaelmas

Wednesday, October 3rd,  10:00AM - 11:30AM

RAINDATE: October 4

The chill of autumn calls us to prepare for winter, as we put the gardens to bed and gather nuts, leaves and berries. Michaelmas is a time of new beginnings and of recognizing challenges that face us as humans. In the kindergarten we celebrate Michaelmas with harvest activities and games.

Lantern Walk

Thursday, November 8th, 5:15PM - 7:00PM

RAIN DATE: November 14

The lantern walk is a revival of an old Martinmas tradition.  Saint Martin of Tours is known as the deeply religious man who shared his Roman Army cloak with a beggar.

“As the days grow shorter and stars appear early, the light of man wants to shine out into the darkening world.”

Spiral Walk

Monday, December 3rd,  5:15PM -7:00PM - (TBA- Confirmed)

In December, we help draw our thoughts ever inward with an Advent Garden — a special time of reflection in silence and light. We are celebrating and honoring the light within each of us.  In the cold and dim of our northern winter, it is all the more clear to us the warmth and light that the people in our lives bring us.

May Day

Tuesday, May 6, 10:00AM-11:30AM RAIN DATE: May 8

Our May Day Festival celebrates the arrival of spring! Wearing our best frocks and flower-crowns, we dance and sing beneath our May Pole. A family picnic follows our celebration.

Festivals & Gatherings

We enjoy celebrating several festivals during the school year. Your family is invited and we welcome your participation! In preparation, the children do seasonal verses, stories, songs and crafts for each festival. Festivals are an important part of the children’s experience at Cobb Meadow School. Each year we celebrate the following:

Birthdays are wonderful occasions for the children and teachers (along with parents!) to celebrate together. Treated like a king or queen for the morning—complete with their own crown and robe—the ceremony includes the story of their birth and life so far, with songs and verse, and a specially prepared birthday treat. The teachers will contact you in advance of your child’s birth date with more information on preparations.  Other gatherings include: Several Parent Evenings are scheduled during the school year to work on specific crafts or to hear a speaker (dates are listed in the CMS Calendar). During the winter and the spring the teachers organize a Baby/Toddler Playgroup that meets one afternoon a week. A Family Potluck ends our school year. Summer Gardening Days provide time for new and returning families to meet each other and work in our garden. At the end of August, all families are invited to a Work Day to help prepare for the reopening of school.
