The History of Cobb Meadow School

Cobb Meadow School is a Waldorf-inspired school that provides a deeply nourishing and satisfying early school experience for the young child. Created in 1992 by Libby Haddock, an experienced Waldorf educator, Cobb Meadow School was nurtured by Libby and her late husband Jim Haddock, in whose house the school still resides.

The Haddocks realized the vision of a Waldorf preschool environment and in their first five years at Cobb Meadow implemented most of the school’s warm and inviting atmosphere: furniture was custom-built, the garden redesigned, and many toys hand-made and acquired. In 1998, following a one-year hiatus, the school was reopened by a group of interested parents and is now governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Libby remains on the Board—which is populated by parents of current and former Cobb Meadow children—and is a teacher in the Monadnock Waldorf preschool. Jim was a regular presence in the classroom and activities with the children until he passed away in 2010. Through the generosity of the parent community, our sunroom was expanded in 2000 to allow for more classroom space.
